Frequently asked

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free is genuinely useful: unlimited treatment logging, unlimited daily check-ins (shedding, itch, notes), full 3-angle photo capture, in-app transplant milestone cards, side-by-side comparison for your first 3 sessions, the last 3 sessions in the Journal timeline, adherence trend for the last 30 days, and 30-day photo reminder notifications. Your photos are always free to view — no paywall, ever.

Pro adds unlimited side-by-side comparisons, the full photo history across all sessions, the full adherence trend history, push notifications for transplant milestones, PDF export for derm or clinic visits, and iCloud sync across your Apple devices.

Monthly or yearly?

Both unlock the same Pro features. The yearly plan works out to roughly $3.33/month vs. $4.99 monthly, and it includes a 7-day free trial. You can switch at any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Does the app analyse my photos automatically or use AI?

No. There is no AI scan, no face recognition, and no server that processes your images. The ghost overlay on the capture screen is a framing guide — it shows your previous photo so you can match the angle. Nothing is uploaded automatically.

What are the transplant milestone cards?

If you enter a surgery date during onboarding, the app generates 9 rule-based milestone cards keyed off that date:

Milestone Days post-op
Rest period Day 3
Scabs clearing Day 10
Normal washing Day 14
Shock loss warning Month 1
The shed Month 3
First fine hairs Month 4
First major growth window Month 6
Thickening phase Month 9
Final result assessment Month 12

The month-3 card ("the shed") is the most important one. Shock loss after a transplant is normal and temporary — the card explains this calmly so you know what to expect.

My hair looks worse after the transplant — is that normal?

Yes, for most patients. Shock loss (temporary shedding of transplanted and native hairs) typically peaks around weeks 4–8 and is a normal part of the healing process. The app's month-3 milestone card covers this in detail. Always defer to your clinic's protocol and consult your surgeon if you have concerns.

How often should I take progress photos?

Most users find weekly or every-2-days photos to be the right cadence — enough to see gradual change without the overhead of daily captures. Set your photo cadence in Settings and the app will remind you when one is due. The Journal tab shows a dot when a photo is due.

Where are my photos stored?

Locally on your device, in the app's private storage. They are never uploaded to our servers, excluded from automatic cloud backups by default, and not added to your camera roll. If you turn on iCloud sync (Pro), they are stored in your private CloudKit container — we cannot access them.

Can I use photos from my camera roll?

Yes. On the capture screen, tap the photo library icon in the bottom-left corner to pick a photo from your library instead of taking a new one.

How do I export data for my surgeon or dermatologist?

Settings → Export PDF generates a report covering your treatment adherence, shedding and itch trends, and a photo session summary for the date range you pick. (Pro feature.)

How do I restore my purchase on a new phone?

Open Settings → Restore purchases (or the paywall → Restore). Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you used to buy the subscription.

What happens if I downgrade from Pro to Free?

Nothing is deleted. All your photos, logs, check-ins, and milestone data remain visible. iCloud sync is paused. New items beyond Free limits (more than 3 sessions for side-by-side) are gated until you upgrade.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone, tap the Follicle subscription, then Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Privacy → Delete all data wipes every log, photo, and check-in on your device. Or delete the app — that removes local data too.

How do I turn off notifications?

Settings → Reminders in the app. Each notification type (treatment reminder, photo reminder, milestone push) has its own toggle.
